MARKETS: Sensex up 100 pts, Nifty near 18,100; RVNL gains 4%, BoI down 3%

OPENING BELL

Stock updates: Benchmark indices started trade on a flat-to-positve note on Wednesday amid steady global cues. The was quoting at 60,708 levels in early deals, up 52 points or 0.09 per cent. The Nifty50, meanwhile, was at 18,076 levels.

SBI Life, Hindalco, Tata Steel, HCL Tech, UPL, Grasim, and ONGC were the top large-cap gainers, rising in the range of 0.6 per cent to 1.7 per cent. HDFC Life, M&M, Cipla, Tata Motors, Ultratech Cement, ICICI Bank, and Reliance Industries, meanwhile, were the top laggards, down up to 0.7 per cent.

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices outrun frontline indices by gaining up to 0.2 per cent.

Individually, Bank of India fell over 4 per cent even as it posted net profit of Rs 1,151 crore, up 12 per cent YoY and 20 per cent sequentially.

Delta Corp, too, tumbled over 4 per cent after the company reported a standalone net profit of Rs 74.2 crore for the quarter ended December, 2022, (Q3FY23) as against a profit of Rs 66.86 crore recorded in Q3FY22

Among sectors, the Nifty Metal index led from the front, advancing 0.8 per cent on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). On the flipside, the Nifty Realty index fell 0.5 per cent to trade as the top dragging index on the exchange.
