OPENING BELL

Stock updates: Equity opened nearly flat with a fractional downtick on Thursday, tracking mixed global cues.

The BSE Sensex fell 50 points to 62,364, and the NSE Nifty50 slipped 11 points to 18,550.

Kotak Bank, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, TCS were the top laggards on the Sensex, down up to 1 per cent, while SBI Life and HDFC Life were the additional top losers on the Nifty.

On the flip side, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, L&T, Bajaj Finserv, M&M, Tata Steel, Eicher Motors and Adani Ports were the leading gainers across the two indices.

The broader markets, meanwhile, outweighed the benchmarks. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices rose up to 0.4 per cent.

Within sectors, the Nifty PSB index rallied 1 per cent to become the top sectoral winner, while IT and Pharma pockets were the sole players in red.

Among stocks, Triveni Engineering dropped 5 per cent after nearly 11 per cent equity of the company changed hands on the bourses.
