MARKET LIVE: Sensex climbs to new high for 4th day, up 200 pts; Metals lead

: Equity had a-better-than-expected opening on Tuesday with nominal gains, tracking mixed cues from overseas. 

Extending early gains, the BSE Sensex rose over 200 points to its new high for a fourth day at 62,724, and the NSE Nifty50 gained 70 points to 18,631, its fresh high for a second session. 


Titan, ITC, M&M, ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma and Dr Reddy’s were the top winners on the Sensex, up to 1 per cent higher, while Hindalco, Britannia and Cipla were the top Nifty gainers.

On the flip side, Maruti, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, L&T, Wipro and Reliance were the leading losers across the two benchmarks.  

The broader also opened in green. The BSE MidCap was up 0.14 per cent and the SmallCap index gained 0.4 per cent.

Within sectors, Nifty FMCG, Metals, IT and Pharma indices held stable gains, while Auto index was the sole loser, down 0.3 per cent. 

Among stocks, NDTV rose nearly 4 per cent after its promoter RRPR transferred its 99.5 per cent equity to Adani group arm VCPL.
