Fifa World Cup: Korea through to last 16; Uruguay go out even after winning

South Korea would be the biggest story of the night as they repeated the feat of their neighbours Japan after they beat Portugal 2-1, coming from 0-1 down. Uruguay had to bow out even after beating Ghana 2-0 in their last group game. Though Korea and the South American nation were tied on goal difference, it was the goals scored that gave Korea the edge. The Asian nation has scored four goals, while Uruguay could muster only two. 
 

All of this happened for them as they came back in the game after having conceded only in the 6th minute. They scored through Kim Young in the 26th minute and through Hwang Hee-Chan in the injury time. 

 

Asamoah Gian was the one who missed the penalty for Ghana and today also one of their most experienced player Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the starting minutes of the first half. After that Uruguay took lead via two quick goals from Arrascaeta and the South American team maintained the lead till the very last. 

However, it was in the 87th minute that they got the news of an injury-time Korean goal and then they needed to score one of their own. Suarez had been substituted and Cavani almost got a header through, but it was not to be. 

So although Ghana were not able to take revenge in the literal sense of them going through beating Uruguay, they still managed to send the South Americans out from the group stage itself and this has happened for the first time since 2002.
